Never has the definition of science
fiction been so apt as for this interesting story which, starting from
plausible, when not known, scientific bases, goes up in the most daring regions
of the imagination, up to where man now does not even dare to think of
reaching: stars. Walt Hansman, protagonist of the book, and his friend Don of
him, are two nice young cadets who have just graduated from the Schiaparelli
Academy, of Mars: year 2150! And when they believe that a holiday period begins
for them, after having obtained the diploma, here they are, for mysterious
reasons, called back to Earth. Upon arrival, the mystery is revealed: they have
been chosen to be part of the staff responsible for the implementation of the
most daring project ever devised by man: the construction of a device that is
baptized starship because it is destined to reach the remote ones. regions of
space, which, according to current scientific theories, are considered
unreachable by man. But physicist Hansman, Walt's father, has developed a
theory which, when implemented, allows man to exceed the speed of light. And
then we follow the construction of the starship, the dramatic test on Pluto,
the departure for Operation Centaur, the arrival on the very distant planet, so
remote and so much like the old Earth. But the emotions are not over: who are
the mysterious civilized Ainsath, the bronze giants that populate the planet?
We do not want to take the surprise away from the reader by revealing it to him
now, but we would like to bet that he would never be able to guess it. And
we're also willing to bet that he won't easily forget the brave, simple Walt,
the smart Dr. Hansman, Captain Garver, who has something of the old pirates,
sweet Marge ... and, not least, Cosmo, the cat of edge, important and fun
character of this clever book.
