The word "nomos" means "law" or "custom" in Greek, and has a very long and rich tradition of use and interpretation in ancient Greek literature and philosophy. This is the focus of the dissertation here which was submitted in June 1939 by Paul Fletcher McCullagh to the Department of Greek Language and Literature at the University of Chicago for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
